The Feeling of Wellbeing

Wellbeing is about how we feel and function in our lives, physically, mentally, and socially. It goes beyond simply being free from illness. It includes how we care for our bodies, manage everyday pressures, and connect with the people around us.

The World Health Organization also recognizes these three dimensions as essential to health. While the foundations of good health are important for everyone, the way we experience wellbeing can differ from person to person.

Physical wellbeing

Regular movement, nutritious food, and sufficient rest all contribute to our physical wellbeing. But looking after our bodies doesn't mean following the same routine as everyone else.

Some people enjoy yoga or playing a sport, while others prefer working out or walking. Similarly, eating well doesn't have to mean following restrictive diets or giving up the foods we enjoy.

What matters is finding healthy habits that suit our needs and are realistic enough to maintain.

Mental wellbeing

Feeling mentally well doesn't mean being happy or stress-free all the time. It's about understanding our emotions, managing everyday pressures, and knowing when we need time to recharge.

Between work, responsibilities, and busy schedules, finding time for ourselves can sometimes be difficult.

For some, a quiet evening alone can feel refreshing. Others might feel better after meeting friends, spending time outdoors, or pursuing a favorite hobby.

Finding what helps us unwind is an important part of looking after our mental wellbeing.

Social wellbeing

Our relationships also play an important role in how we feel. Having people we trust and feel comfortable around can provide a sense of belonging and support.

For some, this means spending time with family or a close circle of friends. Others enjoy meeting new people or being part of a larger community.

Social wellbeing isn't about how many people we know or how often we go out. It's about the quality of our connections and feeling understood by the people around us.

Wellbeing isn't a perfect routine to follow. It's about understanding our needs, making thoughtful choices, and building habits that support our health and the lives we want to lead.
